Illustrated native New Zealand Pūweto, Spotless Crake, Giclee art print

The spotless crake or pūweto is a small bird about 20 cm and weighs around 45g. They are rarely seen but known to be more active around twilight. This delicate, secretive bird joins the list of declining native birds in Aotearoa.   

They can be found in Southland Great Barrier Island Kermadic Islands, Lake Wairarapa, Poor Knights Island and Whangamarino reserve in Waikato. I have featured the Pūweto in February of my 2025 calendar which is available here. https://tuiornottui.com/products/native-new-zealand-2025-bird-calendar
